Ten found guilty of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has ruled against ten people for engaging in the digital intimidation of Brigitte Macron, the spouse of France's leader, Emmanuel Macron.
The those on trial faced accusations of circulating untruths regarding her gender and sexual orientation, in addition to making defamatory statements about the husband and wife's 24-year age gap.
The court issued suspended jail terms of a maximum of eight months to the defendants. The full ruling has not yet been published.
A longstanding conspiracy theory alleging that Brigitte Macron is a transgender woman has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.
This latest legal outcome in France comes as the Macrons engaging in a libel case in the United States of America against political commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the French president's wife's gender.
Their lawsuit alleges that Owens ignored substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions in favour of give a platform to established defamers.
Owens has often echoed these allegations on her digital program and online platforms, and in March 2024 stated that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.
Brigitte Macron originally became acquainted with her now-husband when she worked as an educator at his lycée.
The couple entered into matrimony in 2007, when the man who would become president was 29 and she was approximately 54 years old.
