The speculation about The Game Awards has been intense, especially after host Geoff Keighley shared a puzzling image of a strange statue. The question has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is creating a fresh Divinity game.
Titled simply Divinity, the game was debuted with a audacious trailer packed with striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to an orgy and the very opening of infernal gates.
Not the Expected Sequel
Anyone expecting Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. The studio warned that a third Original Sin game to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.
Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This distinction suggests that the team might be designing a faster-paced experience rather than another turn-based title. Currently, we can only guess, as only a announcement clip is available.
What Makes Divinity Special
The Divinity series is highly rated and arguably it pioneered the recent resurgence of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for intricate stories, branching plots, and deep class systems—traits that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.
While its universe is familiar fare, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the immense freedom bestowed upon the player.
While numerous modern RPGs have simplified options, Divinity is brimming with niche playthroughs that are viable by choosing a particular class or origin with a specific history of choices.
The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to improvise throughout the entire experience. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, frequently in surprising fashion.
- You might find an answer because you remembered something an animal companion shared.
- Or, you could bypass a challenge by teleporting a glob of lava in a clever way.
More to Come
It is these creative systems that have cemented the series to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as a top-tier role-playing games of all time. Now, players can look forward to more where that came from in this esteemed franchise.
